Tip Number: 108

Know how to recover your back-up data before you "have" to recover your back-up data...

It seems obvious to say, but there are so many people who have good intensions regrading back-up recover, but they never actually make sure they've got the system down.

So what's the big deal?

For starters, you'll never know if your back-up data is valid until you've tested it in a restored state. It's really not a "good" thing when you find out that all your back-ups are missing data, or saving it in an un-recoverable format, or "you're just not backing up the right data". Make sure you check your recovery procedures often, and the data you're saving as back-up.
